The Indian cricket team’s major blow came from Shreyas Iyer’s lower back injury. The star cricketer underwent back surgery, and hence, wasn’t a part of the Indian Premier League 2023 and World Test Championship 2023. Iyer is Team India’s one of most reliable players and though earlier it was expected that he would soon return to the squad, the 28-year-old cricketer will likely miss the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023.
Now that Iyer might not be a part of the squad, India will need someone as skilled as Iyer and can hit runs for the Men in Blue. The first and foremost name we think will be the best possible replacement for the injured Iyer is Suryakumar Yadav. Yadav replaced Iyer in the first Test against Australia; however, he could only score eight runs. In the ODI format, Yadav has scored a total of 433 runs and carries good experience playing in the middle order.
Yadav is known for his aggressive batting style and has been in good form in recent years. Not only this, but Yadav was also in red-hot form during the Indian Premier League 2023, and it will be wise to include the 32-year-old in the squad for the upcoming mega-continental tournament.
