With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 set to get underway in just a few days time, Ahmedabad-based Torrent Group on Monday, March 17 completed majority 67 per cent acquisition in one of the newest franchises, Gujarat Titans (GT). Although, the franchise acquisition has been talks since last summer, Torrent Group were the front-runners to bag a stake.

Although, the deal was done in early February, the acquisition has finally got an approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). According to the firm, as confirmed by PTI, Torrent’s purchase of 67 per cent of GT from Irelia Company Pvt Ltd, which is currently owned by private equity fund CVC, has received all necessary approvals, including the one from BCCI.

“With the fulfilment of these conditions, the acquisition has now been successfully completed,” PTI quoted the healthcare and energy conglomerate’s statement. “As part of the transaction, Irelia, managed by funds advised by CVC will continue to hold a substantial minority stake of 33 per cent, maintaining its association with the franchise,” it further read.

However, the financial details of the deal aren’t yet disclosed, the definitive agreements were signed by the Torrent Group on February 12. This comes as a massive boost with the 2025 edition of the tournament set to begin from March 22. The Gujarat-based franchise will be led by Shubman Gill and will kickstart their campaign on Tuesday, March 25 when they take on Punjab Kings at their homeground, Narendra Modi Stadium.
