Trent Alexander-Arnold, the Liverpool right-back, has confirmed his decision to leave the Merseyside club when his contract runs out at the end of the ongoing 2024-25 season after winning the Premier League with them for the second-time. The 26-year-old is reportedly set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer ahead of the next season, but before that, he also gave an emotional statement about his exit from Liverpool, pointing out how it was easily the hardest decision of his life.
Notably, during his illustrious career in Liverpool colours, which began in 2016, Trent Alexander-Arnold has played 371 matches, scoring 27 goals and providing 97 assists, mostly as a right-back, as of this writing. He ended up winning eight trophies with the Merseyside club, including two Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, FA Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
Fabrizio Romano, the Italian sports journalist, confirmed the news that not only is Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, he will also join Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer on a five-year contract. It is understood that both the parties have had a verbal agreement in place, while the documents for the new deal are currently being prepared before the final signatures will take place.
This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life: Trent Alexander-Arnold
In his detailed statement addressing the Liverpool teammates, coaches, support staff, and fans, Trent Alexander-Arnold sounded quite emotional to say the least. He was quoted as saying, “This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life. I know many of you have wondered why or been frustrated that I haven’t spoken about this yet, but it was always my intention to keep my full focus on the team’s best interests, which was securing No.20.”
“From the bottom of my heart, I thank everybody – my coaches, my managers, my teammates, the staff and our incredible supporters - for the last 20 years. I’ve been blessed enough to live out my dreams here and I will never, ever take for granted the special moments I’ve been fortunate enough to have lived through with you all. My love for this club will never die,” Trent Alexander-Arnold concluded.
