P ortugal defeated Uruguay 2-0 in their second Group H fixture on Monday night and qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2022 knockout stages. Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes scored both the goals while many fans and experts thought star forward Cristiano Ronaldo scored the opener, which was later awarded to the 28-year-old midfielder.

Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal are among the only three teams, including France and Brazil, to confirm their qualifications for the FIFA World Cup 2022 knockout stages after playing just two group stage matches.

In the starting 10 minutes of the second half, Bruno latched a long pass into the box as the 37-year-old Ronaldo leaped into the air to head the first goal for Portugal. Apparently, the ball went into the goal and Cristiano began celebration, however, the goal was officially ruled as scored by Bruno Fernandes.

British broadcaster Piers Morgan, who interviewed Ronaldo over Manchester United last month, hailed the five-time Ballon d'Or winner for the goal he hasn't scored.  Piers Morgan tagged Cristiano Ronaldo and tweeted, "Boom!!!"

The FIFA also initially awarded the goal to Cristiano Ronaldo while they confirmed after 10 minutes that it was Bruno Fernandes' goal.
