Indian investor Capri Global, who owns Sharjah franchise in UAE T20 League, has selected former Indian fielding coach R Sridhar as their director of cricket. Sridhar was a part of the Punjab Kings coaching staff in 2014 and later became the head coach of the Andhra cricket team.

Capri Global’s managing director Rajesh Sharma opened up about Sridhar’s appointment as he said, “Mr Sridhar’s experience as a player and coach is almost unrivalled and his strategic insights, coaching approach and collaborative style will be invaluable for the franchise.”

As reported by Sportstar, R Shridhar has expressed his excitement about his new role which outside coaching. He said, “It’s a great opportunity as I am interacting with a lot more people and there is a lot of learning in terms of dealing with the cricket operations, appointment of coaches, support staff and other aspects.”

“Coaching is something I do day in and day out and at Coaching Beyond, we work with a lot of young cricketers. But this role is completely different and I am loving it. Of course, it is a huge challenge with so much cricket being played around the world and the goalpost always moving in terms of players' availability, dates of bilateral series clashing with the tournament and all that. I am enjoying it,” Shridhar said.

The Capri Group has also bought the Rajasthan franchise in the Ultimate Kho Kho (UKK) tournament. Rajesh Sharma opened up about investing in this league and addressed how he and his company wants to get involved in the Indian sporting ecosystem. He then addressed the importance of Kho Kho in the country as it is one of the most ‘most accessible sports in the country’.

Sharma said, “We want to be part of the overall sports ecosystem that promotes homegrown sports and plays the role of an enabler in India’s journey to becoming a leading sporting nation. Kho Kho is one of the most accessible sports in the country and is played by a large population at every skill level. Our goal, amongst others, is to facilitate training at the grassroots level. ”
