Just before the start of the Super Cup 2025 final between Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), UEFA displayed a banner reading, “Stop Killing Children - Stop Killing Civilians”, at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy. The banner was placed in front of both sets of players on the pitch when they lined up in the pre-match proceedings before kicking off the UEFA Super Cup 2025 final.
There were nine children, who lived as refugees in Italy while belonging to conflict areas in Afghanistan, Nigeria, Iraq, and Ukraine, were a part of the pre-match proceedings from UEFA as well. Shortly after, in the high stakes curtain raiser for the 2025-26 season for UEFA, Tottenham Hotspur took a 2-0 lead with goals from Micky van de Ven in the 39th minute and Cristian Romero in the 48th minute.
Lucas Chevalier saved two key penalties to help PSG win UEFA Super Cup 2025 final
Just when it seemed like PSG were out of the contest, they found a way to pull one goal back through Lee Kang-in in the 85th minute before a stoppage time equaliser from Goncalo Ramos, to make it 2-2. The penalty shootout saw new signing for PSG, goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier saved two penalties, to help defeat Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 and win the UEFA Super Cup title.
In the medal ceremony for the UEFA Super Cup 2025 final, two refugee children from Gaza in the Middle East were also involved. The gesture from UEFA just came days after Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian and Liverpool forward, had called them out for not sharing the circumstances regarding the death of Palestinian footballer Suleiman-al-Obeild while paying a tribute to him on their official X account.
Moreover, earlier this week, the UEFA Foundation for Children made an announcement about expanding its humanitarian efforts to provide help to children in need in Gaza, where the Israeli offensive against terrorists is currently ongoing.
