Meanwhile, India took some early wickets in the chase. Mohammed Siraj scalped two wickets in his first spell to send Sri Lanka on the back foot. Umran Malik also chipped in with a wicket as the pacer dismissed Charith Asalanka yet again. While Malik might not have enjoyed that wicket as the batter perished to his own mistake rather than the bowler’s brilliance, the J&K pacer would be thrilled to have created a record for himself.
Malik, who has earned a reputation from himself in the world of cricket, bowled the fastest delivery by an Indian in ODI cricket. The young pacer bowled a 156 kmph delivery to register the unique feat against his name. It came in the same over when Malik dismissed Asalanka. On the fourth ball of the 14th over, the speed gun showed 156 kmph as the bowling speed. The pictures of Malik breaching the mark has gone viral on social media.
Notably, Malik now has the fastest delivery by an Indian in T20Is as well as ODIs. Malik has bowled a 155-kmph delivery in the T20Is. The J&K pacer also holds the record for the fastest delivery by an Indian in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
