Star Indian speedster and pace sensation, Umran Malik has joined the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad ahead of their return fixture against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The three-time champions, who are currently reeling in the bottom half of the points table, will aim to get back to winning ways in order to keep themselves in race for the playoffs.
Ahead of the crucial game, the Knight Riders received a massive boost with Malik re-joining the side after initially getting ruled out due to an injury. However, the Jammu & Kashmir player hasn’t joined as a player and rather will be part of the squad as part of his rehabilitation.

In a statement, the three-time champions wrote, “Umran Malik has joined the squad in Kolkata to continue his rehab and ‘return to cricket’ programme with KKR for the remainder of the season.” “He’s not joining as an official playing member of the squad, but will work with the team and support staff to get back to his best! Welcome to the family, Umran,” KKR further added.
Umran Malik, who made his IPL debut with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), was released ahead of the mega auction in November. He was then brought by KKR for INR 75 Lakh, but an injury had ruled him out of the tournament. In his absence, KKR roped in left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya as his replacement.
