The IPL 2023 min-auction brought smiles to many faces as a few hours of intense bidding changed the fortunes of many players in the world. While Sam Curran, Ben Stokes and Cameroon Green headlined the list of the most expensive buys on Friday, few prominent faces failed to find any bidders as the franchises looked beyond them for the 16th season of the T20 league.
As yet another IPL auction concluded on Friday, SportsTiger has listed our top-five players who were expected to get a camp in IPL but remained UNSOLD. The list is as follows:
Rassie Van Der Dussen
The right-handed batter was part of the Rajasthan Royals camp during IPL 2022, but franchises decided to release him ahead of the mini auctions. In three rare opportunities, Rassie Van Der Dussen could only score 22 runs. His top score was unbeaten 12 runs in one game. Entered with a base price of Rs. 2 crores, the South African top-order batter could not attract any bids during IPL 2023 auctions on Friday.
The 33-year-old has played 41 T20Is and has amassed 1044 runs at an average of 36.0. He has slammed 7 half-centuries in the shortest format with a top knock of 94 runs in one game. Dussen is 33 years old currently.
Dawid Malan
Despite one century under his belt in T20I, the 35-year-old was one of the prolific names in the auction list with a base price of INR 1.5 Crore. Notably, the left-handed batter played one 1 IPL match in 2021 for Punjab Kings and scored 26 runs.
The franchise did not give him any more chances in the season. In T20Is, Malan has played 55 games and slammed 1748 runs at an average of 38.84. He has slammed 1 century and 14 half-centuries in the shortest format. David Malan is an explosive batsman who also held the top spot in the ICC rankings for T20I batsmen for a long time.
Chris Jordan
The right-arm Englishman had a base price of Rs. 2 crores but could not attract any bidders. In IPL 2022, Jordan was part of the Chennai Super Kings squad, but the franchise released him ahead of the mini-auction. In his four appearances in yellow jersey, Jordan picked just two wickets at an average of 67.50.
His high economy rate of 10.52 became a major concern for the franchise, due to which the franchise decided to bench him in most of the games. The England speedster has been part of the Indian Premier League since IPL 2016. He has played for teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Chennai Super Kings.
Paul Stirling
Despite brilliant performances in T20 leagues around the world, the Irish batter failed to attract any bids during the IPL auction. The experienced batter was one of the most high-profile names on the list. In 121 T20Is, Stirling has accumulated 3181 runs at an average of 28.65. The Irish cricketer has also one century and 21 half-centuries under his belt.
Travis Head
Australian middle-order batter entered the IPL auctions at the base price of INR 2 Crore but will not join any camp as none of the franchises showed any interest in acquiring his services. The middle-order batter played his final IPL season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017. In 17 T20Is, Travis has scored 345 runs with no half-century to his name.
