Fred Kerley, 29, the two-time US Olympic 100m medallist, has been arrested in Miami for allegedly punching fellow athlete and former girlfriend Alaysha Johnson, 28, in her face. It is understood that the alleged altercation between the two happened in a Dania Beach hotel on Thursday, May 1, just before Fred Kerley was set to compete in the second Grand Slam Track meet of the year, which began the next day.

As per the report published in the BBC, their partner in the USA, called CBS, along with Reuters revealed that Fred Kerley has got charged for one count of “battery-touch or strike”, which was mentioned in the Broward County Sheriff’s office. The American Olympic athlete made an appearance in court on Friday, May 2, to post a $1,000 bond before leaving jail.

The attorney of Fred Kerley, Richard Cooper, released a statement on behalf of his client, which read, “We are confident that this case will be summarily dismissed shortly.” Moreover, Grand Slam Track sent out a statement yesterday about Fred Kerley not making it to the second meet of the year, stating that, “Fred Kerley was arrested last night. The matter is under active investigation. Fred will not compete this weekend. We have no further comment at this time.”

Alaysha Johnson pulled out of second meet of Grand Slam Track

As far as the 100m Olympic silver and bronze medallist Fred Kerley goes, he was set to be a part of 100m race on Saturday, followed by 200m race on Sunday before being removed from the second meet of the Grand Slam Track. Moreover, Alaysha Johnson, who is an Olympic hurdler, was due to compete in the second meet of the Grand Slam Track, but she pulled out of it.
