The 19-year-old prodigy from South Florida comfortably beat Muchova of the Czech Republic in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, to reach her first U.S. Open singles final. Gauff reached the semifinal with wins over Laura Siegemund, Mirra Andreeva, 32nd seed Elise Mertens, Caroline Wozniacki, and 20th seed Jelena Ostapenko.The American will look to get her first major title on her home turf with the crowd behind her.
Aryna Sabalenka will become the world No. 1 when the new rankings come out next week after a stellar show at the US Open. Sabalenka clinched her spot in the final after a topsy-turvy, three-set semifinal against Madison Keys, 0-6, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (10-5). Sabalenka had registered straight-set wins over Maryna Zanevska, Jodie Burrage, Clara Burel, Daria Kasatkina, and Qinwen Zheng to reach the semifinals.
