The United States of America (USA) Cricket, the governing body for cricket in the country, was issued a notice by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in the month of July last year, due to not abiding by their rules of governance. The ICC declared the USA Cricket unfit for administrative purposes even after the USA hosted the T20 World Cup along with the West Indies last year. Then, the ICC reformed their plans and decided to plan a structural reset of leadership and governance. The new roadmap is in accordance with the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), with the USA Cricket needing a national body certificate for LA 2028.
According to the recent developments, the ICC, which is led by former BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, has decided to give more time to the USA in order to sort out their governance issues. ICC have reportedly given the USA Cricket a time period of three months and have decided to disregard the suspension for now. The ICC will reportedly issue a confirmation about the same very soon, as reported by the Forbes. It is also reported that the USA will not be given a free spot without qualification for the LA Olympics 2028 despite being the host nation of the world’s biggest sports festival.

Meanwhile, the other teams will have to compete in a qualification round in order to seal a spot in the historical competition, which will see cricket being introduced for the first time in the Olympics since 1900.
