Indian Cricket is witnessing a transition in captaincy after Virat Kohli decided to step down as captain from the longest format.
Virat's decision has taken the world by shock. It may be noted that Virat's decision came a day after India was defeated by Dean Elgar's South Africa in Cape Town in the three match Test series. Hence, speculations were rife that Kohli might have taken the decision under the pressure of BCCI.
Virat could have continued for few more years as Test captain: Arun Dhumal
Notably, on the previous occasion, when Kohli announced his decision to step down as T20I captain, he had been sacked as ODI skipper. After which there was a spat between Sourav Ganguly, the management and Virat. However, putting an end to all rumors this time, treasurer of the BCCI, Arun Dhumal confirmed that the board did not ask Virat Kohli to step down as team India's Test Skipper. Dhumal mentioned,"Virat Kohli had no pressure from the BCCI or selectors to step down. It’s his decision and we respect that, but he could have carried on for another two to three years as captain."
Meanwhile, on 15th January, Virat Kohli took to Twitter and mentioned about his resignation from being India's Test Skipper. He went on to thank India's former coach Ravi Shastri and Mahendra Singh Dhoni's contribution in his Test career.
