After being named in Delhi’s 22-member probable squad for the Ranji Trophy sixth round fixture against Saurashtra, star Indian batter Virat Kohli has opted out of the game. But this development comes after reports revealed that Virat Kohli has some niggle in the neck.

Moreover, days prior, a source from the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) was quoted as saying, “Virat Kohli had a neck sprain and even took injection for the same. There is a possibility of him (Kohli) skipping the first two Ranji trophy games left and a clear picture could come if the DDCA selectors are given an update.”

However, days after this update, the DDCA has finally confirmed of Virat Kohli’s absence from the upcoming game against Saurashtra, scheduled to start from Thursday, January 23 onwards. "Kohli has been advised to rest because of a neck sprain sustained during the final Test against Australia at Sydney. He is not available for the Saurashtra game. About the Railways game, which is also Delhi's last league encounter, we are still not sure," a senior DDCA official told PTI.

Although, he also confirmed that a call on his participation in the last match will be taken at a later stage. Notably, Kohli last played a Ranji Trophy match in 2012 against Uttar Pradesh. On the other hand, star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has confirmed his availability for the Ranji Trophy fixture against Saurashtra, however he has refrained from taking the captaincy reins.
