Virat Kohli, the former Indian captain, reportedly took an injection to alleviate pain in his neck due to a sprain during the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Sydney. In a recent report, it was also stated that Virat Kohli could skip playing for Delhi in the final two rounds of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 group stage due to his recent injury, which would give him enough time to be fit for the ICC Champions Trophy next month.

Notably, as per many reports circulating in the media, Virat Kohli was all set to make himself available for Delhi after more than a decade, to play some domestic cricket. But now, with the Times of India revealing that he had suffered a neck sprain during the last BGT Test match, which was played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), for which he took a neck sprain, there is no confirmation yet about when he will play competitive cricket once again this year.

Delhi need to win their remaining group stage matches in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 for chance at reaching knockouts

The Delhi & District Cricket Association source, on the condition of anonymity, was quoted as saying, “Virat Kohli had a neck sprain and even took an injection for the same.” “There is a possibility of him (Kohli) skipping the first of the two Ranji Trophy games left and a clear picture could come if the DDCA selectors are given an update,” the source further stated.

Moreover, Delhi need to win their remaining group stage matches in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, to give themselves the best chance of making the knockout stage of the tournament. With that, the involvement of Virat Kohli could prove to be very crucial for Delhi, especially with Rishabh Pant all set to make his return to the domestic team under Ayush Badoni’s captaincy.
