Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced a second consecutive loss as they lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their ninth game of the season. They conceded too many runs while bowling first and then failed to chase it down and lost their fourth game of IPL 2022. A team whose bowling has been their strength over the seasons saw its bowlers getting hammered all over the park by Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway.

Apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, every SRH bowler was taken to the cleaners by the CSK opening duo. However, captain Kane Williamson missed the services of one of their main bowlers who could have minimized the damage. Washington Sundar did not bowl a single ball even after being a part of the playing eleven. The SRH all-rounder left the field injured while fielding and thus could not contribute with the ball.

Notably, it was revealed later by SRH coach Tom Moody that Sundar has re-injured his bowling hand while trying to stop a shot from Ruturaj Gaikwad. Moody said that the right-arm spinner got hit on the same hand where he had split his webbing.

“It’s very unfortunate that he had a knock on the same hand were he split his webbing. It had healed completely but he re-injured that area, it’s not injured to the point that he needs it re-stitched. But unfortunately, it wasn’t in a state were he could bowl. It really did have an impact on for us in that early phase of bowling, given he has such a critical bowler for us,” Moody said at the post-match presentation.

Notably, Sundar was ruled out of three games after he had taken a blow on his right hand. The all-rounder made a comeback in the XI against Gujarat Titans but did not look that impressive. Now, once again clouds of uncertainty are hovering over his availability for SRH's next game against Delhi Capitals.
