In the latest update, Deepak Chahar has been officially ruled out of the remainder of ODI series against South Africa. The board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have named Washington Sundar as his replacement in the ODI squad.

 

The senior seamer had suffered stiffness in his back after the third and final T20I against South Africa. He also missed a place in the Playing XI for the opening ODI of the three-match series after reportedly twisting his ankle.


 

Notably, the 30-year-old will now head to the National Cricket Academy for rehabilitation under the supervision of the medical team. Chahar made a return after a long injury layoff after the Zimbabwe tour. He is also one of the standby player for the upcoming T20 World Cup, with Mohammad Shami being the frontrunner to replace injured Jasprit Bumrah in the 15-member squad.

 

Talking about the three-match ODI series against South Africa, India lost the first ODI by nine runs with the Proteas taking a 1-0 lead in the series. The two sides will not meet next on Sunday, October 9) in Ranchi as the Shikhar Dhawan-led side eye to level the series.
