Naveen-ul-Haq, the Afghanistan fast bowler, has been in the headlines after his spat with Virat Kohli in the Indian Premier League 2023, which involved Gautam Gambhir as well. The incident happened on May 1, during the group stage match of the prestigious tournament between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore. At that time, Kohli and Gambhir nearly came to blows before they were separated by other players and officials nearby.
Since the heated exchange, Naveen-ul-Haq has been making intriguing social media posts, mostly alluding to the happenings during the IPL. On July 1, Saturday, exactly two months after the incident, the 23-year-old bowler sent out yet another cryptic post on his Instagram account to possibly revive the feud with Virat Kohli.
The video showcased an argument between the Tiger and the Donkey, who went to the Lion to sort out their differences. It concluded with a message, which read, “The worst waste of time is arguing with the fool and fanatic who does not care about truth or reality, but only the victory of his beliefs and illusions. There are people who, no matter how much evidence we present to them, are not in the capacity to understand, and others are blinded by ego, hatred, and resentment, and all they want is to be right even if they are not.”

Meanwhile, after the IPL 2023, Naveen-ul-Haq shared his views about the incident between himself and Virat Kohli to BBC Pashto in an interview. The Afghanistan cricketer said, “He (Virat Kohli) shouldn’t have said all those things during the match and after it. I didn’t started the fight. After the match, when we were shaking hands, Virat Kohli started the fight.”
Virat Kohli was fined 100% match fees for his Level 2 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct. Meanwhile, Naveen-ul-Haq was fined 50% match fees for his Level 1 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
In the same interview, the 23-year-old fast bowler tried to make his point while referring to the offence level by the IPL officials on both players in the aftermath of their spat. He said, “When you will look at the fines, you will understand, who started the fight.”
