On Sunday, November 19, Australia defeated India by six wickets to become ODI World Cup champions for the sixth time in their illustrious cricketing history. When Glenn Maxwell hit the winning runs off the bowling of Mohammed Siraj, the entire Australian contingent, including the players and support staff, came rushing down to the field to celebrate a thoroughly professional performance at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The player of the CWC 2023 final was Travis Head, who put together an epic innings of 137 runs off 120 balls to help Australia chase down a target of 241 runs with ease against a very formidable Indian bowling attack. The 29-year-old stitched together a match-winning partnership of 192 runs for the fourth wicket with Marnus Labuschagne, who stayed unbeaten till the end on 58 runs off 110 balls.
Earlier in the afternoon, India was bundled out for a below-par total of 240 runs in their allotted 50 overs, with Mitchell Starc picking up three crucial wickets. For India, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli scored fifties, but it proved to be far from enough for the hosts to have a real shot at winning the ODI World Cup 2023 final.
Moreover, Australia won their first-ever world title in the 50 overs format in 1987 after defeating their arch-rivals England. Since then, they have lifted the CWC trophy in 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015 before their triumph in 2023 at the expense of the hosts India.
