India and Sri Lanka took on each other in the second T20I of the three-match series on Thursday (5 January). Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first. India did not start well enough as they conceded 55 runs in the first six overs. However, Yuzvendra Chahal brought India back into the game as he dismissed Kusal Mendis who was running away with the game. Umran Mailk provided the second breakthrough for India as he dismissed Bhanuka Rajapaksa.

Axar Patel struck to dismiss Pathum Nissanka to bring the third wicket for India. He got Nissanka caught at long-on at the hands of Rahul Tripathi. It was a simple catch but Rahul Tripathi did not anticipate it nicely and hence fell to the ground while grabbing the catch. The fielder then made a gesture that confused everyone including the on-field umpires. This led to the umpires checking it with the third umpire before making the final decision.

What Tripathi did was he rose both arms in the air and it looked like he was signalling a six. Axar Patel was left in splits as he too was left confused. The bowler was seen holding his head while laughing his heart out.
