In the second leg of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) 2024-25 playoff clash, Alphonso Davies scored a 94th minute goal for Bayern Munich, to shatter Celtic’s hopes of reaching the round of 16 of the tournament this season. After taking a 1-0 lead with Nicolas Kuhn in the early stages of the second half, Celtic were on their way to the next round of the UCL, but for Alphonso Davies’ late goal, which helped Bayern Munich draw the second leg 1-1, and progress further in the tournament with a 3-2 aggregate victory.
Notably, Celtic arrived at the Allianz Arena, trailing Bayern Munich 1-2 after losing the first leg of the playoff round at the Parkhead a week ago, but they managed to equalise the contest with a goal from Nicolas Kuhn in the 63rd minute following an error from Kim Min-jae. Before that, the visitors had multiple opportunities to score more goals through Nicolas Kuhn, Callum McGregor, and Daizen Maeda, while for Bayern Munich, Harry Kane came the closest as he hit the bar before being taken off at half-time.

Following a big setback in the second half, Bayern Munich took the attack to Celtic, who defended for the lives for the better part of the last half hour in the match. Late on, Leon Goretzka headed delivery from Michael Olise towards goal, where Casper Shcmeichel made a great save, but the rebound was slotted in the back of the net by Alphonso Davies after he managed to thwart off the attempt at clearance from Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Following a tough defeat in Munich, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers spoke about the significance of his team’s performance, and his remarks read, as per FootBoom, “I can only take immense pride from the performance. The guys gave everything. European credibility was always going to be important for us this season. That's my takeaway from this campaign, from the 10 games. We learnt some valuable lessons along the way and played some amazing football.”
“We've taken a club of this size and magnitude and a club where one of the players is maybe more than our budget. So, everything that comes with that allows us to build,” he added.
