Carlos Alcaraz, the Spanish tennis player, reached the final of the Barcelona Open after defeating Frenchman Arthur Fils in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in the semi-finals on Saturday, April 19. The 21-year-old introduced a new celebration, enjoying the victory moment in style in front of his adoring home fans, and on Sunday, he will be facing Denmark Holger Rune for the coveted title, aiming to win it for the third time in his career.

During the one-sided battle in the semi-finals of the Barcelona Open, Carlos Alcaraz committed just 13 unforced errors in comparison to 38 from Arthur Fils, breaking the serve regularly as well. It took Alcaraz just one hour and 16 minutes to get the better of his French opponent, especially with the first set completely going his way early on, winning five games in a row including a couple of break points.

With that, Carlos Alcaraz has reached the final of the Barcelona Open for the third-time in four years, winning it the previous two times, while missing the tournament last year due to injury. Following his semi-finals victory, the new celebration introduced by the Spaniard was for the members of his team, who had talked to him about doing something that they wanted.

In the post-match interview, Carlos Alcaraz spoke about his memories of watching the Barcelona Open final as a kid and now playing in it. He was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “Since I was a little kid, I watched the final every Sunday. Being in the final again means a lot, in front of my people and my friends who came from Murcia [Alcaraz's home city]. Let's see if tomorrow we will end the day with the trophy.”
