On Wednesday, May 28, Chelsea defeated Real Betis 4-1 in the final of the UEFA Conference League, to lift the coveted title for the first-time in their illustrious footballing history. At the Tarczynski Arena in Wrocław, Chelsea came back from a goal down, scoring four goals in just over 25 minutes of the second half, to register a comprehensive victory over Real Betis, which helped them become the first team to win all the four UEFA club competitions.
Prior to winning the newly created UEFA Conference League for the first-time ever, Chelsea had already taken home the Champions League twice in 2012 and 2021, Europa League twice in 2013 and 2019. The West London club had also clinched the now-defunct Cup Winners’ Cup in 1971 and 1998, which has now meant that they have completed the set of UEFA titles.
Chelsea made resounding comeback against Real Betis after going 1-0 down in first half
In the highly pulsating final, Chelsea went down 1-0 in the first half against Real Betis when Abdessamad Ezzalzouli scored the opening goal in the ninth minute. Until the hour mark, Chelsea lacked the killer instinct in front of goal, but after the arrival of Cole Palmer from the substitutes’ bench in the second half, everything changed for them with the star player assisting Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson, to give his team a 2-1 lead in the 70th minute.
Jadon Sancho and Moises Caicedo scored for Chelsea in the latter stages of the UEFA Conference League final, to put it firmly beyond the reach of Real Betis. After securing the coveted title for the first-time ever, Chelsea players and support staff celebrated in style in Tarczynski Arena in Wrocław in front of thousands of their fans, who were just as ecstatic as them off the pitch.
Moreover, Chelsea will be playing the UEFA Champions League (UCL) next season after finishing in fourth place in the Premier League table last weekend with 69 points to their name in 38 matches.
