During the FA Cup quarter-final match at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea defender Axel Disasi scored a freakish own goal against Leicester City, to bring their opponents back into the contest. But, ultimately, the two late goals for Chelsea were enough to secure a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Leicester City, to secure their passage through to the FA Cup semi-final.
Marc Cucurella scored his first goal in Chelsea colours to give the London club the lead in the 13th minute. During the first-half stoppage time, Cole Palmer, one of the rising stars for Chelsea, doubled their lead against Leicester City.
But, the second half saw Chelsea goal-keeper Robert Sanchez become a mere spectator on the pitch in the 51st minute when Axel Disasi freakishly put the ball in the back of his net from 35 yards out. Just 11 minutes later, Stephy Mavididi scored the second goal for Leicester City, bringing them right back in the thick of things at 2-2.
In the 73rd minute of the FA Cup semi-final, Callum Doyle of Leicester City got a red card for fouling Nicolas Jackson after video assistant referee (VAR) involvement. This led to Chelsea pushing forward to take the decisive lead against Leicester City, and they managed to score two goals in the second-half stoppage time through substitutes Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke.
With their 4-2 win, Chelsea became the third team to qualify for the semi-finals of the FA Cup after Manchester City and Coventry City. Manchester United will be hosting Liverpool in the fourth quarter-final of the tournament at the Old Trafford.
