Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara scored a magnificent century for Sussex against Durham during the first round of fixtures in the County Championship Division Two earlier today. During the final session of Day 2 at the County Ground in Hove, the Indian test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara brought up his hundred in style as he smashed the England international Brydon Carse for a boundary. Notably, this is  Cheteshwar Pujara's debut as  Sussex captain.

This was also the first match for Pujara in competitive cricket since he last appeared for India against Australia in the 4th test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). It didn’t deter him from finding his optimum batting form straight away in tough overseas conditions and scoring an impressive ton in his comeback innings.

To celebrate this century, the Twitter account of Sussex County Cricket Club posted a video with the simple yet telling caption, “Magical 100, @cheteshwar1”. The short clip featured a couple of square cuts, an on-drive straight past the stumps, and an acknowledgement of the milestone from Cheteshwar Pujara while raising his bat.”

This hundred from Cheteshwar Pujara is crucial as he prepares himself to play a massive role when India takes on Australia in the ICC World Test Championship Final, scheduled to take place at The Oval in London from June 7.  The runs from Pujara at the top of the order against a rampant Aussie bowling attack will be key for India to compete well and get a step closer to ending the drought of ICC trophies dating back to 2013.
