Chelsea star Cole Palmer helped the team make a remarkable comeback against Tottenham Hotspur, defeating them 4-3 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, to remain second in the Premier League table, and cut Liverpool's advantage at the top to four points. The Blues won their fourth Premier League game in a row, continuing their impressive start to the season under the new manager Enzo Maresca. The star of the night Cole Palmer created history by scoring two goals from the penalty spot, breaking a long-standing record of Yaya Toure, to play a key role in Chelsea's roaring response to being two goals down after 11 minutes in the first half.

Cole Palmer made no mistakes from the penalty spot to bring Chelsea level in the 61st minute after Jadon Sancho's goal in the first half. A brilliant run by the 22-year-old set up Enzo Fernandez's 73rd-minute goal, giving Maresca's side the lead, before he clinched the deal with a Panenka penalty in the 84th minute. Son scored a consolation goal for the hosts in injury time, but Chelsea prevailed 4-3. Palmer's well-composed goals were the highlight of the match. It allowed Chelsea to keep second place with 31 points in 15 games, to close the gap on league leader Liverpool, who had their Merseyside derby against Everton cancelled due to bad weather at the Goodison Park.

Palmer makes Premier League history; beating Toure's record for most penalties scored without missing

Cole Palmer, on Sunday night, successfully broke Yaya Toure's long-standing penalty record in a calm and composed manner, and he is now the outright holder of the Premier League record for most penalties scored without missing. Palmer has 50 goals (33 goals and 17 assists) in 48 Premier League outings for the London club since moving from Manchester City. Toure had a flawless penalty record at Manchester City, scoring 11 times in as many attempts. Palmer has now become the world's first player to score 12 goals without missing a penalty. Ivan Toney came close to breaking the record in 2023 but missed his 11th attempt after scoring in the first ten.

Furthermore, Palmer's classic game continued while he broke Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's 23-year Premier League record for most goal contributions in a calendar year. Jimmy had either scored or helped 37 goals for the London giants in 2001, and Palmer has now contributed 38 goals for the club in 2024. Palmer has been a revelation since joining Chelsea last summer, scoring 36 goals and assisting 21 times in 63 games in all competitions. In 2023-24, he earned both the club's Player of the Season award and the Premier League's Young Player of the Year honor.
