The only goal in the Wednesday's game was scored by Adeyemi in the 63rd minute as he completed a sensational counter attack move after Chelsea's corner was cleared by the BVB defenders. Adeyemi collected the clearance in the Dortmund's half and ran around 70-yard, shrugging off Chelsea's big-signing Enzo Fernandez and dropped the goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga with his touch of excellence before scoring the winner.

Adeyemi celebrated the goal with a backflip as fans remembered a young Aubameyang, who played for the Black and Yellow outfit and currently plays for Chelsea but was left out of the squad for the Dortmund clash.

Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel produced sensational saves that helped his side take a one-goal lead over the Blues. Kobel saved Chelsea defender Reece James' dangerous-looking freekick in the 55th minute and  seven minutes later tipped Mykhailo Mudryk's drop kick around the crossbar.

In the 78th minute, Kobel denied Joao Felix' effort and saved Enzo Fernandez's effort in the last few minutes to help his team avoid a draw in the closing stage of the game.

Dortmund coach Edin Terzic praised Kobel and said, "We are delighted about the victory. Of course, we had luck on our side today. We must thank our goalkeeper Gregor Kobel."

On the other hand, Chelsea coach Graham Potter said, "Overall, a good performance. We competed well away from home. We played well in the second half apart from the goal against us. We got things to improve but it is halftime now and we have a chance at Stamford Bridge."
