England attacking midfielder Ella Toone has opened the goal-scoring in the FIFA Women's World Cup semifinal to take the Lionesses ahead of the hosts, Australia on Wednesday at the Stadium Australia. Before the end of the first half, England lead the Matildas 1-0, thanks to an opening goal by the Manchester United star.

The winners of the game between England and Australia will face Spain in the finals on Sunday, August 20. Spain defeated Sweden 2-1 on Tuesday in the FIFA Women's World Cup semi-final.

Ella Toone scored the opener in the 36th minute after Alessia Russo flicks back for the 23-year-old from the left. The Manchester United midfielder scored a beautiful goal into the top corner to give a 1-0 lead to her side.

While England ended the first half with a  1-0 lead, Australian star Samantha Kerr scored an equaliser within 20 minutes of the second half. The 29-year-old Chelsea forward scored a spectacular goal from outside the box to keep the hosts in the game.

Sam Kerr scored a brilliant solo goal from 25 yards out in the top left corner to level the game. However, England striker Lauren Hemp took the Lionesses ahead of the Matildas after just eight minutes of Kerr's goal.
