In Game 7 of the National Basketball Association (NBA) finals, Oklahoma City Thunder held their nerves and defeated Indiana Pacers to clinch the title by a 4-3 margin. Pacers exceptional campaign came to a painful conclusion as they fell short against their opponents by 103-91 margin in the decider. Following the star player Tyrese Haliburton’s exit due to Achilles injury, McConnell stepped up and performed brilliantly for his side. Talking about McConnell’s contribution in the final, he chipped in with 16 points earned through six rebounds and three assists in 28 minutes.

After Indiana Pacers’ defeat, the 33-year-year-old failed to control his emotions and broke down while passing through the tunnel. He was solaced by Pacers’ Vice President of Players’ Relations Karen Atkeson. When the incident was taking place, the cameraman was following them to capture the moment but Atkeson blocked the camera and shooed him away. McConnell was in sensational touch in the finals for Indiana. He averaged 12 points per game.

Following the contest, McConnell appeared in front of the media and addressed his side’s supporters. He praised Indiana fans for their loyalty and also issued an apology. "They're absolutely incredible. Just want to apologize for coming up short. We wouldn't be in this position without em. They've willed us to a lot of wins, and it's an honor and a pleasure to play in front of them.”

For Oklahoma, it was their maiden title win. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander again displayed his excellence and racked up 29 points gained through five rebounds and 12 assists in Game 7. He, along with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, now is the only player in NBA history to win MVP and Finals MVP at the age of 26.
