Jos Buttler-led England beat Pakistan in the final of the T20 World Cup 2022 to lift their second title in the shortest format. England kept Pakistan in check right from the start. Buttler called it right at the toss and things panned out just like he would have wanted. Sam Curran got rid of Mohammad Rizwan and then Adil Rashid sent back Mohammad Haris.
Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan frustrated England for a bit but Rashid was at it yet again. The England leggie got rid of the Pakistan captain with a sharp googly. Iftikhar Ahmed too followed Azam back into the pavilion. After that Sam Curran and Chris Jordan kept it tight at the end and restricted Pakistan to 137/8.
With the kind of batting England did against India, it was expected to be a cakewalk for the Three Lions. But Pakistan bowlers were not ready to give up easily. Shaheen Afridi cleaned up Alex Hales while Haris Rauf dismissed Phil Salt and Jos Buttler. Harry Brook and Ben Stokes stitched a partnership, but Shadab Khan struck to send back Brook.
A chase that was looking easy at the start was suddenly tricky. Ben Stokes was still there but was struggling to middle the ball. Eventually, Stokes broke free as he hit a boundary against Haris Rauf. The England batter then hit a boundary and a six on consecutive deliveries against Iftikhar Ahmed to settle the nerves. Moeen Ali also found a couple of boundaries.
In the end, Stokes hit the winning run and it was all celebrations in England. As broadcasters showed, fans back in a restaurant in London started the celebrations as soon as Stokes hit the winning run.
