It has indeed been an extremely sad Sunday for all the FC Barcelona fans as star player Lionel Messi bid his final goodbye to the club in an emotional farewell press conference at Camp Nou. The 34-year-old opened up on the turn of events in last few days and even broke down while speaking as everyone gave him a standing ovation for his services to FC Barcelona.

Messi admitted that he was confident of staying at the club and everything had been agreed upon between him and the club. However, he revealed that he was informed that he would not be able to get a new contract due to Laliga rules and regulations. As a result, it is now officially the end of the Argentine star's time in the club after spending magnificent 17 seasons.

As Messi was addressing everyone at Camp Nou, a huge number of fans gathered outside the stadium to get a glimpse of their beloved star. Over the years, the 34-year-old gave some memorable and unforgettable moments to the fans in Barca jersey which is making it difficult for everyone to accept the fact that the little magician is actually leaving the club.

After the end of the press conference on Sunday, Messi left the stadium in his Range Rover with wife Antonela Roccuzzo and kids. This is when the fans tried to stop his car as they chanted 'Messi Messi' as a mark of tribute for the man who led them to numerous trophies.

Respecting the emotions of fans, the former Barca player also slowed down his car and gave a wave towards everyone which was to be his final goodbye.

I didn't want to leave this club: Messi

The 34-year-old earlier admitted that he tried his best to stay at FC Barcelona but it was just not in his hands anymore. He said, “I’m really sad because I didn’t want to leave this club. I love Barcelona and I wanted to stay, my contract was ready. I did everything in my possibility to stay." After bidding adieu to the Catalans, Messi is expected to head to Paris where he could sign a sensational deal with French giants PSG.
