FC Barcelona scripted an epic comeback victory against Celta Vigo on April 19 at the Montjuic Stadium, taking them seven points clear of second placed league rivals Real Madrid as the business end of the Spanish league nears. After being 3-1 down in the 62nd minute, courtesy of a superb hat-trick by Celta’s Borja Iglesias, Barcelona went on to score three goals in the last 35 minutes to secure an epic victory. It was instant impact from Barca’s substitutes Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo, who finished the game with 1 assist and 1 goal respectively after coming on in the 60th minute.
A candid moment occurred moments before Barca’s winning goal when Dani Olmo was brought down in the box after a challenge from the Celta Vigo centre-back. With all the players on the pitch along with Hansi Flick and his coaching staff asking for a penalty, the referee did not recognize the foul and play continued. Seeing this decision from the referee, one of Barcelona’s assistant coaches was visibly very furious as he aggressively hurled a tablet that was in his hand to the ground in protest of the referee’s decision. The decision was overturned later on after VAR called the referee to the monitor to review the tackle and his decision.
Massive injury scare for Barca’s Lewandowski ahead of crucial matches
While Barca fans and the team are ecstatic about the all-important victory, an area of concern that remains is the fitness of Robert Lewandowski. The 36-year-old Polish striker sustained a knock during the match and was seen holding his hamstring as he went to the ground and signalled to be subbed off. He was replaced by Gavi in the 78th minute in what could be a potentially big blow for the team in light of crucial fixtures lined up ahead.
While there hasn’t been any confirmation about the extent of Lewandowski’s injury, it was reported that he could be out for almost three weeks which would see him miss the Copa Del Rey final against Real Madrid and possibly both the legs of the Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan.
