Defending champions France opened their FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign with a dominant victory over Australia in Group D fixture. France scored four goals past Australia on Tuesday night, however, Les Blues defender Lucas Hernandez suffered a gruesome injury during Socceroos goal that ruled him out of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
France came from behind and scored four goals against Australia to open their World Cup campaign with a victory. Olivier Giroud scored a brace and joined legendary Thierry Henry at the top of the all-time top goal scorers for France with 51 goals.
During the ninth minute, Australia winger Mathew Leckie beat Hernandez to latch a cross into the box that found Craig Goodwin, who opened the scoring for Australia. After being beaten by Leckie, Hernandez torn his ACL in his right knee and stayed on the ground for a couple of minutes in pain holding his knee. Later, the Bayern Munich defender limped off the field as his brother Theo Hernandez replaced him in the match.
