On Monday, August 4, India registered an edge of a seat win over England in the fifth and final Test of the five-match series, played at the Kennington Oval in London. Coming into the final Test after drawing the fourth Test in Manchester and trailing the series by 1-2 margin, the Men in Blue held their nerves until the final minute and secured a thrilling six-run win over the Ollie Pope-led side to draw the series 2-2 in the newly minted Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

For the unversed, England won the toss and invited India to put the score first. On the back of a fighting 57 from Karun Nair, the visitors posted 224 on the board. While Gus Atkinson starred with the ball, picking a fifer for England, on the back of fifty plus scores from Zak Crawley (64) and Harry Brook (53), England posted 247, taking a 23-run lead. The Shubman Gill-led side did not stop here as on the back of 118 from Yashasvi Jaiswal along with 66 from Akash Deep and 53 each from Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja, they went onto score 396, posting a 374-run target.

Raw emotions pour in the Indian dressing room; Gautam Gambhir gets teary-eyed

The home side took the guards again in the middle and put up a fighting with a 54-run knock from Ben Duckett, along with centuries coming from Joe Root and Harry Brook’s bats. Ending day four at the score of 339/6, needing only 35 runs to win, the home side held their nerves, but it was the same in the Indian camp. Mohammed Siraj, who led the pace attack in the fifth Test in absence of Jasprit Bumrah, shone in the pressure situation, completing a fifer and restricting the hosts to 367.

With Siraj picking the final wicket in Gus Atkinson, the entire stadium erupted in loud cheers to celebrate India’s victory at The Oval. Not only this, the Indian dressing room consisting of the support staff and coaches, too brought in raw emotions. Gautam Gambhir, who is usually spotted carrying a straight face, was at his animated best and he brought in wild celebrations after Team India’s victory.

In the video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Gambhir was seen clapping hard as India picked Josh Tongue’s wicket. With a lot of anxiousness on the faces with Gus Atkinson in the middle, as soon as Siraj cleaned him up, the entire team management was seen jumping in joy. Gambhir, was seen hugging Morne Morkel, Sitanshu Kotak, T Dilip, video of which has been going viral.
