For the unversed, it was the stand-in captain of Bangladesh, Najmul Hossain Shanto, who put India into bowling first after getting the toss right. After a slow start in the first five overs of the innings, the openers Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das put the foot on the accelerator, to take the score to 93 in the 15th over, while bringing up their respective fifties.

But then, a flurry of wickets from Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja brought India back into the contest. The experienced duo of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmadullah managed to resurrect the Bangladesh innings and helped them put up a score of 256/8 in their allotted 50 overs.

The run chase for India was exemplary from start to finish, with the captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill giving it the initial impetus. Virat Kohli stayed not out till the end, scoring his 48th ODI hundred, his first in the ODI World Cup in eight years, to take the hosts over the line against Bangladesh.
