Indian Formula 2 driver Jehan Daruvala was involved in a huge crash during the sprint race at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The MP sports driver was eyeing another podium as he had a strong start in Baku and had locked in third place during the sprint until the 11th lap when Oliver Bearman overtook him.

Fighting for the podium spots Daruvala was shuffling between the fourth and fifth place. But then in the 19th lap, Fellow MP Sports driver Dennis Hauge hit the barrier into Turn 1. This chaotic second safety car restart took out the top three in the Baku sprint race and allowed  Ollie Bearman to clinch his maiden Formula 2 victory. This win also helped register a 1-2 finish for Perma racing with Frederik Vesti grabbing the second place.

The third place was taken by Jak Crawford of Hitech Pulse-Eight, while the other Indian driver Kush Maini took the fourth place while driving for Campos Racing. Rounding off the top-five Enzo Fittipaldi, driving for  Rodin Carlin, pipped  Juan Manuel Correa to grab the fifth spot.

Reacting to his first podium, an elated  Ollie Bearman stated that he hopes to continue this form in the main race. He said,  “First win in F2 and also my first podium! I’m really happy to take this result starting from P9. It was a mega race and going off pole tomorrow, we can be hopeful.”
