Gau tam Gambhir is cheerfully known as the nation’s hero for his two epic knocks in the World Cup finals, first in the 2007 T20 World Cup final followed by the rescue man in the 2011 home ODI World Cup final. In addition to that, his popularity among Kolkata Knight Riders fans is also above par owing to his significant contribution to the franchise. One such fan of the KKR mentor broke down in tears as he expressed his love for Gambhir at an event.

Gambhir, who led the Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise from 2011 to 2017, guided the team to two title glories, one in 2012 against the Chennai Super Kings, and the other in 2014 against the Punjab Kings. Since then, KKR haven’t been able to win an IPL trophy, with only coming close to it in 2021, where they lost to MS Dhoni-led CSK in the summit clash in Dubai. However, before the 2024 season, KKR appointed Gambhir as their mentor and the team’s performance took a drastic turn since then.

In an event conducted by KKR, an ardent Gambhir fan broke down in tears while thanking him to be back where he belonged. The sobbing fan said, “I’m one of your biggest fans. Just want to say, aap hume chhodh kar mat jaiye. Aapke jaane se hume jitna takleef hua hai, woh hum aapko samjha nahi sakte hai. Aapko ek Bengali song mein hum batana chahate hai, “Tomaye hrid majhar rakhbo, chede debo na. Chere dile sonar gour aar toh paabona.”

He added, “You are my heart. Hum aapko yaha par rakhte hai. Hume chhodh kar aap kabhi mat jaiye. Hume takleef mat dijiye sir. Hum aapko kabhi chhodh na nahi chahate hai. Please sir, please!” The host further translated the Bengali song which he described as, “I will keep you right here, I won’t leave you. I think that’s the sentiment everyone has.”
