UFC star Leon Edwards hit Colby Covington with a bottle in his face after the latter made a tasteless remark about Edward’s late father. During the UFC 296 pre-fight press conference, Covington made an insensitive comment towards the UFC champion, which invoked his murdered father. Edwards reacted to the comment immediately and threw a water bottle at Covington, which hit him in the face.
Notably, the Englishman’s father was the victim of a homicide after being shot outside of a nightclub, when Edwards was just 13 years old. Edwards later described his late father as having been involved in criminal activities. During the pre-fight conference, Covington made a deep and distasteful remark about Edward’s father.
The American said, "On Saturday night, I'm going to bring you to a place you never want to be. I'm going to bring you to the seventh level of hell. We'll say what's up to your dad while we're there." The reigning UFC champion was filled with rage at his American counterpart’s comments and threw a water bottle at him. The Brit’s action almost sparked a brawl and the security had to intervene.

Notably, both Edwards and Covington will lock horns at the UFC 296 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in an ESPN+ pay-per-view card on Saturday, December 16. The headline event will have Edwards fighting for his second title defense while Covington will aim for his second straight win after his win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272.
