Lionel Messi-led Argentina buried the ghosts of Saudi Arabia and registered a win over Mexico to stay alive in the competition at the FIFA World Cup 2022. Captain Messi opened the scoring in the 64th minute after a goalless first half. The Argentinian scored from outside of D as he pierced through the small gap between the feet of three Mexican defenders and the goalie’s hand.

It was a moment of joy for the Messi fans and Argentina fans as the job was far from done. Argentina had a 1-0 lead but they had to ensure Mexico don’t do a Saudi Arabia. Enzo Fernandez came forward as he scored in the dying minutes of the second half (87th minute) to give the South American side a 2-0 lead. The defenders then took care of things and sealed a win for Argentina.

Now, it was the time for celebrations and no one was stopping Lionel Messi and his men. In a video going viral on social media, Argentinian boys inside the dressing room can be seen dancing to loud South American music as they celebrate on-pitch success with a singsong. Players and team staff are shown standing on the sides with arms raised, some still in kit, with a chant being sung around the changing room.

While Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez appears to be leading the antics as he jumps up and down on a centre console, Messi is caught centre-stage with his top off and a smile stretched across his face. The other familiar faces include Paulo Dybala and Nicolas Otamendi.

Although Lionel Messi and his men celebrated the win over Mexico with spirited emotions so much so that one report described the actions as 'bedlam’, Argentina know they are not yet fully in. The Copa America winners need to win against Poland and also hope for the result of Saudi Arabia vs Mexico to go in their favour to stay alive in the competition.
