Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, who led Slovenia in the FIBA World Cup 2023 match against Venezuela, stole the game by scoring a tournament-high 37 points. Riding on their captain’s brilliant play in the World Cup opener, Slovenia took down Venezuela 100-85 on August 26, Saturday.
The 24-year-old displayed brilliant skills in the game, by defending offensively and scoring 37 points in total. Doncic’s score came with 11-for-18 shooting (2/8 3PT, 13/16 FT), with a combination of 7 rebounds and 6 assists in 31 minutes of the game. Luka shot 11/18 from the field, which came with just one miss for two-pointers (9/10) and went 13/16 from the free-throw line.

The first half of the game was close to the Luka-led side losing the first quarter but they put up a great game and bounced back in the second half. The collective effort of the side helped them put the game to rest in the second half, by outsourcing Venezuela by 10 points.
The American NBA star Mike Tobey was in second place, with a total score of 21 points and five rebounds. The duo was followed by Klemen Prepelic, who pulled up 18 points and 5 rebounds. Speaking of the Venezuelan side, it was Garly Sojo who topped the charts with 16 points. The victory against Venezuela got Slovenia their first win of the tournament and took them to the top of the charts in Group F.
