During the first ODI of the three-match series between India and Australia, KL Rahul missed the easy run out of Marnus Labuschagne at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. On September 22, Friday, in the Australian innings, the moment happened when Cameron Green and Marnus Labsuchagne had a massive misunderstanding, but the Indian stand-in captain KL Rahul failed to collect the throw to knock the stumps down.

For the unversed, KL Rahul, who has been given the responsibility to captain Team India in the first two ODIs of the series, won the toss and decided to bowl first. The start for the Indian cricket team was fantastic as Mohammed Shami got Mitchell Marsh caught at wide slip region via Shubman Gill for four runs, in the first over.

Steve Smith joined David Warner to stitch together a 94 run partnership after batting cautiously in the initial stages, to put the Australian innings back on track. The left-handed opening batter was the second wicket to fall, getting holed out at the wide long-on region to Shubman Gill off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling for 52 off 53.

Shortly afterward, Mohammed Shami castled Steve Smith for 41 off 60, which led us to the KL Rahul moment. On the first ball of the 23rd over, Marnus Labuschagne played a gentle drive off Ravindra Jadeja towards the short cover region, and when Suryakumar Yadav misfielded the ball, he set off for a run without getting any response from non-striker Cameron Green.

As the right-handed batter realised his mistake and stopped in his tracks, the fielder threw the ball to KL Rahul, who had an easy chance to collect the ball to inflict the run out, but he failed to do so. It led to Marnus Labuschange surviving a certain run out, to rebuild the Australian innings once more, in Mohali.
