RedBull’s Max Verstappen pulled off an incredible victory at the inaugural Miami Grand Prix as he overpowered the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz who finished second and third. Starting third on the grid, Verstappen cruised past Sainz and grabbed the second spot in the opening lap itself.

Then just seven laps later, Max surged past Leclerc to hold the pole position and went on to win the race. After the race, Verstappen was heading towards the trophy ceremony where he was given some special treatment as a group of police personnel escorted him to the podium. The police comprised of two police officers on motorcycles turned on their sirens where the Dutchman was being driven in an open-top car.

After the race, Verstappen talked about his performance after the below-par start to their weekend. He also addressed the safety car incident towards the end of the race after the Lando Norris and Pierre Gasly clash. He said, “Yes, of course, it’s a very good comeback. I didn’t even do a [practice] start, so I didn’t know what to expect in the actual start. But we had a good launch, and I saw the opportunity to go around the outside [of Sainz] in Turn 1 so I tried. Luckily it worked."

“Then of course I was not very happy with that Safety Car, but of course fully understandable, what happened, and of course, you cannot be too disappointed about it because also in the past it has benefitted me in some races. I knew it was going to be a tough one to the end, it was quite physical out there – now the next 10 laps we had to be flat-out! On a track like this, it’s not easy”, he added.
