The much-awaited UAE Friendship Cup 2022 began in Sharjah on Saturday and Match 1 between India Legends and World Legends 11 produced some brilliant moments to cherish for cricket lovers. It was indeed a treat to watch, especially for 90s kids, who got to see some of the most amazing retired cricketers back on the field.

From Nayan Mongia’s famous appeals while wicketkeeping to Asghar Afghan’s power-hitting, from Chaminda Vaas’ swing-bowling to Tillakaratne Dilshan’s moment of magic on the field, the fans got to re-live many incredible moments.

Azhar shows his class in Sharjah

However, the best of the lot probably came in the 8th over of the match. With the match almost done and dusted, India Legends were batting for pride with captain Mohammad Azharuddin in the middle. The stylish right-handed batsman had a slightly cautious start but he did give a glimpse of his class in Sharjah.

At a stadium where he has produced heroics in past, Azharuddin smashed one of his trademark sixes off the bowling of Tillakaratne Dilshan. A casual stance, use of the feet and off went the ball towards mid-wicket boundary for a huge six. For everyone who had gone to the stadium to see the great man batting, it was certainly a ‘paisa-vasool’ moment.

Although Azharuddin scored 13* off 19, India Legends fell short of the target by 73 runs. Graeme Cremer was the star of show, registering figures of 2-0-5-3. Earlier in the match, it was Asghar Afghan whose 48* off 18 balls had guided his side to 139-3 in 10 overs, which eventually proved to be too much for the India Legends.
