Batting first, the Rohit Sharma side posted 357 runs on the scoreboard for their guests to chase. While the Islanders thought of regaining control of the match in the second innings, India's lethal bowling unit destroyed their batting unit, and with this their hopes. Indian fast bowler, Mohammed Siraj picked three wickets in the names of Dimuth Karunaratne, Sadeera Samarawickrama and skipper Kusal Mendis.

After picking up his third wicket for the night, the 29-year-old hit football great Cristiano Ronaldo's trademark 'Siuuu'. Mendis was forced to walk back to the hut with just one run in his account. The previous champions lost four wickets in five overs with seven runs on the board.
