Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders are currently participating in the IPL 2022 opening game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. While the match was expected to be a high-scoring affair based on the reputation of the venue, as it turned out Chennai, who were asked to bat first, managed to score 131/5 in their quota of 20 overs.

Things could have been far worse for the Men in Yellow had it not been for MS Dhoni. The ex-CSK captain was in fine form and not only absorbed the pressure of the early wickets that had fallen but then managed to turn it on in vintage Dhoni style, completing his half-century off 38 balls.

He reached the milestone with the help of 7 fours and a six.

However, as it turned out, MS Dhoni's efforts went in vain as CSK succumbed to a 6-wicket defeat with 9 balls remaining in the first match of IPL 2022. Umesh Yadav was adjudged the Player of the Match for his performance with the new ball as he scalped the first two wickets to put Chennai on the backfoot.

"Wickets in the powerplay is important. Team's role is what I carried out today. Usually I've been focusing on my rhythm. I'm thankful to my trainers for keeping me in shape," Yadav said after the match.

IPL 2022 will witness a double header on Sunday.
