On September 3, Sunday, the NASCAR Southern 500 race was halted for seven minutes when some lights went out at turn 3 and 4, due to a power outage at the Darlington Raceway. Once the race resumed, the former NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson, driving the No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, managed to take victory at Southern 500, to open the playoffs for the current season in a spectacular fashion.

Notably, the caution came out from NASCAR, when the teams noticed that some lights were off on Darlington Raceway on turn 3 and 4. They managed to fix the problem in a few minutes, which led to a huge roar from the fans the moment lights came back on.

It was later revealed that the problem occurred because of the transfer switch not receiving enough voltage to fire up. Before the NASCAR Southern 500 race weekend began, a lighting test was conducted, which didn’t detect this problem.

For Kyle Larson, taking the checkered flag for the first time at the Darlington Raceway couldn’t have been any sweeter, after he had led 715 career laps at this track. After winning his third race in the season and 22nd in his NASCAR career, he was quoted as saying, “This is a track I really enjoy, suits my style. I just hadn't won yet. Was good to do it today.”

“Adding this trophy to the collection is amazing. This is one of three or four crown jewels,” he further added.
