But recently, Shakib was in the news for all the wrong reasons as he was involved in a verbal spat with the umpire after the latter didn't signal a wide ball during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League. After that incident, an old clip of BPL where the umpire giving a clearly edged ball wide has gone viral and fans have hilariously credited Shakib for the umpire's error.

The clip is from BPL 2019 when Shakib was playing against the Comilla Victorians. Facing Mahedi Hasan, the all-rounder was on the non-striker's end as his partner was given a short and wide delivery, which he clearly hit as he attempted a cut short. As the batter nicked the ball, it went behind the keeper. But the umpire was seen signaling a wide. The bowler was in absolute shock and tried reasoning with the official. But the umpire stayed with his decision.
