The mega contest in Group E of FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers saw India lock horns against Afghanistan. With the teams ranked third and fourth in the particular group squaring off at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Qatar, a moment of lapse by the Afghanistan goalkeeper gave India the lead.
As India ran their play from mid-field and allowed Ashique to deliver a bowl inside the box, he delivered the cross, which went straight into the arms of the Afghanistan goal-keeper. However, Ovays Azizi made a fool out of himself as he let the ball slip from between his legs and into the goal, leaving his own teammates in disbelief.

This was surely one of the luckiest goals the Men in Blue have ever registered against their names on the international stage. After the significant pressure build by India on the Afghanistan defense in the last couple of minutes, this was the last thing any Afghanistan fanatic might have wanted.
However, minutes after this goal, Afghanistan scored an equaliser to keep frustrate Team India. In the end, both teams had to settle for a draw. Meanwhile, the draw secured India a place in the third round of AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers.
