During the promotion of his upcoming romantic sports movie “Challengers,” the British actor Josh O’Connor got a surprise video package from Rio Ferdinand, who asked him about which of the current Manchester United stars has a future in acting. In response, Josh O’Connor stated that the current captain, Bruno Fernandes, does a great fed-up acting, throwing his arms about in frustration.
Josh O’Connor is starring alongside Zendaya in the movie Challengers, which is directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by Justin Kuritzkes. It has Mike Faist, who plays the role of a professional tennis champion, plotting a comeback to the sport with the help of his wife, played by Zendaya, a former tennis prodigy, who had to retire from the sport due to an injury.
The character of Mike Faist takes on another tennis player, Josh O’Connor, a former best friend turned bitter rival, while his wife is also a former lover of him.
In a post on their official X account, Football on TNT, shared a video featuring Josh O’Connor and Zendaya promoting “Challengers.” When the pre-recorded video of Rio Ferdinand was played during their interview, Josh O’Connor was shocked and astonished at the sight of the Manchester United legend addressing him.
Moments later, Rio Ferdinand said to him, “Eric Cantona went into acting, post playing career at Manchester United. Which of the current squad do you think will be able to follow in his footsteps as an actor.’ After gathering his thoughts, he gave Rio Ferdinand his flowers and answered his question by saying, “This is going to be so rude but Bruno Fernandes does great fed up acting, he is always throwing his arms about.”
The Challengers is set to release on April 26 in the United States of America by the Amazon MGM Studios.
