
India suffered a big blow during day one of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. Star wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant had to walk out of the field after suffering an injury on his leg while facing Chris Woakes during the third session of the day. During the 68th over of the Indian innings, Woakes bowled a yorker which Pant tried to hit with a reverse sweep.
Rishabh Pant couldn’t time the ball as it hit his shoes after finding the edge of his bat. Woakes appealed for an LBW but the onfield umpire didn’t give out. However, Pant still go out off the field as he suffered a painful injury after the ball hit his leg. The left-handed couldn’t even stand on both legs as he was taken out of the ground on a mini van giving India a major blow. In his place, Ravindra Jadeja joined Sai Sudharsan at the crease to take the Indian innings further.
Sai Sudharsan scored maiden Test 50 on day 1
One of the positives for India from the third session of day one was that Sai Sudharsan went on to score his maiden half-century in the Test format. After Pant’s departure, Sudharsan went on to hit a boundary on the next over off Joe Root to reach the 50-run mark in 134 balls. He got out after scoring 61 runs off 151 balls.
This was Sudharsan’s maiden fifty in Test cricket in just the second game in the longest format. He also scored two fifties in three matches in his ODI career so far. Talking about the match, India have crossed 200 runs during the third session of day Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur taking the innings further.
